Andernach is Farnham's twin town in Germany. It is situated on the west bank of the Rhine, between Bonn and Koblenz and is more than 2000 years old. It has a medieval town wall and many historic buildings. The centre of the town is pedestrianised and the Rhine gardens are claimed to be the most beautiful on the Middle Rhine. The town is close to many areas of great beauty and interest on the Rhine and Moselle and in the neighbouring hills.
Andernach is the largest port on the Middle Rhine and the river itself is busy with barges and, in the summer, with hotel ships. It is a calling point for day cruises on the Rhine and Moselle and up-river is the famous Lorelei rock.
